Born in a family of artistic sensibility, Joël von Allmen started his career in photography in a cultural milieu at the beginning of the 1980's in Switzerland and Paris. He completed work for Balthus, Manessier, and Dürrenmatt. A lover of modern art, he formed friendships and work relationships with such artists as Olivier Mosset, Ben, Felice Varini, Emmanuelle Antille, Natacha Lessueur, and Christian Robert-Tissot. He created his own exhibition, a series of portraits arrayed in triptyque.

Having explored the worlds of art, architecture, and journalism, Joël von Allmen specializes in studio photography, especially of luxury watches and jewelry. He collaborates with the largest Swiss manufacturers: Breguet, TAG Heuer, Audemars Piguet, Girard-Perregaux, Zenith, Ebel, Longines, Rado, Beaume & Mercier and De Grisogono. He participates in the conception of the advertising campaigns for his watchmaking clients as well as those for the prestigious pen industry, Omas and Caran d'Ache.

In parallel, Joël von Allmen takes portraits of celebrities such as actors Maggie Cheung, Gong Li as well as opera singer Anna Netrebko. The quality jeweler Chopard entrusted him with their new advertising campaign, "Kind of Magic", with top model Eva Herzigova. Its release in 2006 was a resounding success. At the same time, Joël von Allmen was the photographer of the TAG Heuer ambassadors: actor Uma Thurman, tennis pro Maria Sharapova, golf champion Tiger Woods, and race-car drivers Jeff Gordon, Kimi Raikkonen, Juan Pablo Montoya, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. He lately designed the new Raymond Weil campaign. Stars, celebrities, models, artists, and friends: today Joël von Allmen devotes himself especially to photographing people.
